Setting Intentions for the New Year: Work Smarter, Live Slower, Dream Bigger

Setting Intentions for the New Year: Work Smarter, Live Slower, Dream Bigger

A new year doesn’t always need loud resolutions. Sometimes it calls for quieter intentions, the kind that settle in slowly, guide your days, and shape the way you live and work over time.

As we step into this season, I’ve been reflecting on what truly matters: how I work, how I care for myself, how much time I spend outdoors, and how boldly I allow myself to dream. These intentions aren’t about doing more — they’re about doing what matters, better.

Working Smarter, Not Harder: After a few years of building Kelp House, one thing feels clear: growth should bring ease, not exhaustion.

This year, my focus is on working smarter — refining systems, leaning into the tools already available to me, and creating workflows that support sustainability rather than burnout. As a candle maker, these things are very important especially as your brand continues to grow.

As a candle maker and small business owner in Nova Scotia, my goal is simple: let the work feel more intuitive and less overwhelming — so there’s energy left for creativity, family, the ocean and rest.

More Time in Nature (Together): Nature has always been grounding for me, but this year I want to be more intentional about it.

More walking. More hiking. More beach days. More time outdoors with my toddler — showing her how to pick berries, notice the tide, feel the ocean breeze, and explore slowly. These moments aren’t “extras”; they’re essential.

Spending time outside fuels creativity, improves health, and reminds us why we build flexible lives and businesses in the first place.

Health as the Foundation: I hope for every intention this year to lead back to health.

By optimizing how I work, I can reclaim time — time to move my body, breathe fresh ocean air, rest when needed, and be present with my family. Health isn’t just physical; it’s mental clarity, emotional balance, and creating space for joy.

This year is about becoming the healthiest version of myself, not through extremes, but through consistency, gentleness, and better boundaries. Kind of a breath of fresh air, right?

Dream Big (and Share It): The final intention is the one that ties everything together, dream bigger, and share those dreams out loud.

You never know what’s possible until you try — and I want to model that courage for others too. This year, I’ll be sharing more about what we offer at Kelp House, including:

These programs reflect everything we value, thoughtful living, sustainability, and making small rituals more meaningful. Dreaming big doesn’t have to mean rushing — it simply means allowing yourself to believe in what you’re building.

So here is your invitation: If any of these intentions resonate with you — working smarter, spending more time outdoors, prioritizing health, or dreaming bigger — I’d love to hear about it :)

What are you setting your intentions around this year?

Feel free to share this blog post or email to a friend who might need a little inspiration. Sending good vibes out and cheers to another beautiful year!
